Behind the Blog: Amber

We all wonder who the mastermind behind the blog is, and I have yet to do my "100 things." So here it goes, the inside peek:

  1. Fantasmo is named after a dead pet fish. I gave Captain Fantasmo to Rick after dating for a few months. Sadly, he floated on but we haven't...and that's a good thing.
  2. As you may have guessed, we have a large fish tank. My inner pisces really digs it. Rick is a water sign too, so it works for us.
  3. Ava is our daughter. She decided to join Rick and I after a whopping three months of dating. The odds were stacked against us, but here we are going on three years this July. Eat that Fates!
  4. I can't forget Fergus the fluffernutter. He's our long-coated chihuahua with one hellacious underbite. I've had him my entire adult life and he turns seven this summer. You do the math. He may be small, but he'll still chase the deer with the best of 'em.
  5. We hope to buy a house one day.
  6. Perhaps get married too. We've got the ring, now for that pesky wedding thing.
  7. I'm currently juggling family life, work, and trying to get my degree in graphics.
  8. I like to run. I used to run a lot. Not so much anymore, but I hope to win my age group in a 5K this summer. I took second a few years ago.
  9. I'm a sucker for anything blue.
  10. I was once an exchange student to Demark. Hej alle mine danske familie!
  11. I'm never wrong, it's a family trait. And I absolutely hate it when I'm proven wrong, but that never happens.
  12. Rick is the same way. Good thing we agree about most things.
  13. I am an excellent skier.
  14. Not too shabby at cooking either.
  15. I will do anything for my family and friends.
  16. I have to put chapsick on before I go to bed.
  17. I still have my baby blanket, tucked carefully away in a closet. It's very worn and holey, but I just can't part with it.
  18. I looooove to sleep. Maybe because I suck at it.
  19. I hate full moons. They're too bright and they interfere with my sleep.
  20. I love water. I will probably always live near a lake. That said, I can't stand the salty oceans. I'm a freshwater girl all the way.
  21. I once had an ambition to put ghost flames on everything I own. I tested out my skills on my first blue '85 Chevy Blazer. They rocked.
  22. I should be painting Harley's, they too could rock.
  23. I should also be tattooing people, but I'm too intimidated by all of the other awesome artists out there.
  24. No, I don't have any. I just can't seem to settle on one design, so I give them all away.
  25. Eight piercings. All in my ears, you dirty thinker!
  26. I love chickadees, but I think bluejays are bullies. Finches just use me for my birdseed.
  27. I love to go camping, but I think RV's and pop-ups are considered cheating. Take a tent you big wuss!
  28. I loathe grocery shopping, however I love to see my cupboards and refrigerator packed after a shopping trip.
  29. I am not a tidy person, but I keep up with it anyway.
  30. I like my houseplants, but I'll be damned if I can get a flower bed to grow.
  31. I don't paint enough. When I do, I surpise myself at how well it came out, and then I think I should get off my duff and do it more often.
  32. I hated being pregnant. I did not "glow." But being Ava's mom is the greatest thing ever.
  33. Happiness is the delicate spring flowers that carpet our Northern woods in the springtime thaw. Have you ever seen a Trillium? You should.
  34. A northern winter wind makes me antsy for the mountains.
  35. I make wishes on shooting stars. Always
  36. After ten years of piano lessons, I was not a prodigy. Sorry grandma.
  37. I do love music though, and I sing at the top of my lungs in the car. Ava is never as amused as I am.
  38. Someday I hope to visit Italy again.
  39. I believe in ghosts.
  40. I've always been afraid of the dark, but I have to have pitch black to sleep. Oh, the irony.
  41. I have two younger sisters. One day I will try to impart all of my knowledge to them, but it might be a challenge because they're never wrong either.
  42. Black-eyed Susans are way better than daisies.
  43. I love to dance, but I'm not brave enough to be the only one on the floor.
  44. I'm horrible at taking compliments, but I'm learning to smile and say, "thank-you" anyway.
  45. I am way too hard on myself sometimes...yes I was an A student.
  46. Still am for that matter.
  47. I like oranges better than apples.
  48. Wearing socks to bed is unheard of. My pigs will freeze before I will succumb to the thought of putting a pair on.
  49. I don't get sick on merry-go-rounds and I haven't met a roller coaster I didn't like.
  50. Honey Nut Cheerios are good. Honey drizzled on Cheerios is even better.
  51. Ambrewskins was coined by my best friend. She's the only one who calls me that. Personally potato skins and beer come to my mind everytime she says it, but I let her keep calling me that 'cause that's what best buds are for.

So, while this may not be 100 things hopefully it's given you a little clearer glimpse of Amber.

A few things I want to add:

1) You are, and always have been, a wonderful daughter.
2) You have become an incredible, loving, caring mom.
3) You have an unbelievable talent with art and I hope someday soon you won't be intimated by the other awesome artists out there because you have it girl!
4) You and Rick have taken a somewhat rocky beginning and turned it into something really good - keep up the good work.
5) Finally, for now, I may join you in the 5K this summer! LOL
Much love, Jo

Amber, you lived in Denmark? Awesome! So unusual.

I liked your #11 -- it reminded me of a sign my grandpa had in his office, which said "I once thought I was wrong, but I was mistaken."

Wow, I can't believe there's someone else out there who puts chaptstick on before bed! Also, I'm with you on #37 - my son is not a fan of my singing either.

I found the Wall-e costume you made for your daughter last year for Halloween when I did a Google search. Would you be willing to sell it? Please email me iluvmooz@gmail.com. Thanks.
